Tridentnav Systems has now been officially registered as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) within the IHO S-63 Data Protection Scheme. Thus, users of Tridentnav Systems navigation program Tridentnav ECS can now also use encrypted chart data according to the IHO S-63 standard, giving access to chart data for waters all over the world with updates every week.

Users who have existing subscriptions to chart data in S-63 format can now use their existing subscriptions also in Tridentnav ECS, without need for any new subscription for chart data.

The IHO S-63 standard for encryption of electronic navigational charts (ENC) is developed by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). The original unencrypted ENC files are produced by the responsible authorities in each country, according to the IHO standard S-57.

An importande advantage of the S-63 scheme is that the navigator can purchase a subscription for chart data separately, independent of which navigation systems, ECS or ECDIS, that will be used for viewing the charts. A subscription for S-63 chart data continues to be valid even if the navigation system on board is changed.
