Tridentnav ECS now supports engine input
2009-02-09 12:00

Tridentnav Systems navigation software Tridentnav ECS now supports input of engine data: engine rpm, temperature, battery voltage, oil pressure and fuel tank level can now be shown together with chart, GPS information, etc.
The fuel consumption can be shown either directly, in litres/hour, or converted to litres/NM using the GPS signal information about speed over ground. This is useful for finding the most economic speed, saving fuel on long voyages.
The engine data input is read via the computer's serial port, in a similar way as the information from GPS, log, echo sounder, and other instruments on board.
The interface needed to convert analog signals from the engine is provided by BN Marin: http://www.bnmarin.se
In the near future the conversion of engine data will also work for conversion from the new standard NMEA2000, supported by most new engine models.
