Focus and feeling for details

System architechture and general philosophy
The main purpose of Tridentnav ECS has been to create a navigation system that is flexible and at the same time easy to use. Tools that are used frequently should be easy to reach, without stealing attention from the navigator's other tasks. This is achieved in two ways, through the view system and the menu system.

The view system lets the navigator adapt his screen layout according to the situation at hand or according to personal taste. Depending on which information the navigator wants available on the screen, a number of different views with either alphanumeric information or chart images can be shown.

Example of a screen layout

Tridentnav ECS is designed to allow easy and fast access to the program's functions even in a rough environment at sea. Information is shown in a way that is easy to read. The menu system has large buttons and uses text instead of symbols to avoid ambiguity.

Example of a menu

S-57 is an international standard for vectorized chart data developed by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). The hydrographic authority of each country is responsible for production of vectorized chart data that covers the waters of that country. This system ensures that the information in the charts come from a reliable source. In Tridentnav ECS, S-57 chart data is presented according to the IHO standard for chart presentation (S-52). The symbols in the charts look the same regardless of which nation the data comes from. The vectorized format allows the navigator to choose which information is displayed in the chart.

Tridentnav Systems develops PC-based software for navigation at sea. The software is available in two different versions: Tridentnav ECS Standard for leisure craft users, and Tridentnav ECS Professional for proffesional users.
